Yesterday was hectic. We got to the Commons at 8 am for check-in and to pick up keys. The process is simple, they scan your DORMS printout and check your ID. You sit for a quick photo (it won't be pretty!) and then you get your keys and a housing packet. There is a presentation by the housing management about the handbook and rules and then you are free to leave.
I briefly met my roommates outside afterwards and then I took my dad to pick up his rental car at the airport since he is staying until the weekend. I ended up with not enough time to visit the apartment before casting, so I tried to find the Casting Center and wait in the parking lot. The address they give you for the building does not work well in Google maps. I ended up stopping in the structure at Disney Springs and trying to find it again because it was not showing up where it should. Google tried to take me to the Coronado Springs area, which I knew wasn't correct because I could see the building from the structure, I just didn't know how to get there.
After an emotionally charged few minutes, I figured out the street I needed to take to get to Casting. The parking lot had lots of spots available, which was nice because it was way too hot to walk from anywhere else. Also, you can wear anything to casting. Most people had sandals and/or shorts. I would have felt more comfortable in business casual because it is a nice office type building, but I was so overheated and frustrated by the directions that I didn't care to change.
Casting checks your documents for a background check, then gives you information about Traditions, and finally fingerprints you and sends you along. The entire process took about 20 minutes.
Finally I made it to Falcon Square and started unloading my car. It was 91°F and sunny, which was torture trying to make 10+ trips to and from my car, and up 1 flight of stairs. The buildings are 3 stories, so it could have been even more intense. Once all of the roommates arrived, we picked rooms and beds and started to unpack. My roommate and I had considerably more stuff than the other 2. Next time, I would pack extremely light and just buy things once I arrived.
Here are some pictures of Falcon Square, I wish I had taken photos of the bedroom before unloading our stuff, but once we started, there was no stopping! I will try to take another photo once we are all set up (or mostly set up).
The stairs. Very sweaty!
Our building exterior. That second floor balcony is our neighbors'. Ours is behind the trees.
The living room. There is a smart TV on the wall to the right.
Entrance into the dining room, and the laundry room.
The kitchen!
We have a large balcony. Thinking about putting chairs or hammocks out there.
Our bathroom.
The bedroom, upon move-in. The right side is mine.
Walk in closet. Nice and big and easy to divide in half!
Overall we really like the apartment and have only found a few things to report to maintenance. We also have to complete our move in inventory/check the condition of the apartment. We have to turn those forms in to the housing management office, which is on site. We can also attend a welcome party and turn it in then (which we will most likely do!)
